We’ve listed 10 money saving ideas here:

  1. Window Coverings: close curtains and shades at night to seal in heat, but during the day, open up and let the sun shine in! As much as 25% of heat loss can be attributed to windows. On windy days, check for drafts and ensure that the windows are properly closed and sealed.
  2. Doors: since we’re talking about drafts, check your exterior doors for leaks. Small gaps can add up to big costs. Check weather stripping and ensure doors are sealing properly.
  3. Fireplaces: keeping the damper closed on your fireplace can significantly reduce down drafts in and heat escape out of your home.
  4. Vents: since we’re on that subject, ensure your dryer vent is closed securely. This will not only help with energy loss, but will help prevent critters from cozying up inside your venting system when the days get colder!
  5. Thermostat: setting your thermostat down 7°-10° for about 8 hours a day (when you’re at work or asleep) can save an astonishing 10% off your heating bill!
Tip: Integrity Air can install a programmable thermostat that will make the adjustments for you!
  6. Layers: fuzzy socks, slippers, a robe or sweater can warm you up while your thermostat is lowered so you won’t feel any less comfortable.  When it’s cold outside, nothing says money in the bank like a house that’s decked out in warm accessories!
  7. Filters: a dirty filter makes your furnace or heat pump work harder, meaning it expends more energy. Have your system checked, cleaned and tuned up by a professional at least once a year.
  8. Fans: hot air rises so switch your ceiling fans to reverse and bring the warmth back down to floor level.
  9. Humidity: winter air is just plain dry, causing static electricity, dry skin and sinuses. Installing a whole house humidifier can reduce heating costs because moist air retains heat better than dry air. Contact us for more information.
  10. Maybe it’s time? It could be that your system is just old and tired, meaning it’s not as efficient as it should be. Integrity Air is happy to provide a free quote for a new, energy efficient furnace or heat pump just in time for North Georgia’s cold winter ahead!
